Ethics is an essential part of fieldwork, as working with humans and observing their manner of speaking is something that requires a certain amount of sensitivity. It involves issues as disparate as archiving data, obtaining consent, protecting anonymity, compensating informants, fulfilling one's responsibility to the community, protecting informants and communities from harm and dealing with other researchers.
