One must always make sure that data is kept secure so it is not destroyed or lost. A researcher may frequently need to go back to previously retrieved data in order to compare it with other projects' findings or to add-on new information. In this case, knowing exactly where to look and having permanent access will come in handy. Fieldworkers should also try to convince their Ethical Committee or Internal Review Board that destroying data after research is unjustifiable because such information is commonly intended to be permanently accessible to other researchers that are interested in it. One should establish some kind of database with a filing system to make using the data easier and more feasible (cf. Crowley 2007: 53-54; Tagliamonte 2006: 53, Bowern 2008: 151-152).
