5.8. Interactivity

A good map is expected to offer the possibility of engaging the map viewing user into interacting with it intuitively, given the map creator intends to allow that. For example, different layers can be plotted on the map as per the wish of the map user, information on different points and regions can be retrieved through user interaction, and historical data can be viewed on a time line.

Maps created with Fusion Tables offer the basic feature of Google Maps of zooming in and out, looking for photos, viewing terrains in the “Map” view and labels in the “Satellite” view. However, those features come by default and the map creator has nothing to do with them. Based on the map creator's input, however, it is possible to observe the name of a location and the value of the mapped feature at a particular location point. One important function Fusion Tables lacks is the option of plotting multiple layers. This observation is, however, limited by the restrictions of this webpage, where such features are not explored in more detail.

LL-MAP supports plotting any number of layers on the map. Such layers are portrayed on the provided base map. It is also possible to select different layers of the base map; e.g. country boundaries, state/province boundaries and geographic regions can be selected or deselected to view as the user wishes.
