5.7. Customization

A good mapping tool should allow users to customize the software options to visualize their data in a convenient and desirable way. Both Fusion Tables and LL-MAP offer this feature.

In Fusion Tables it is possible to change the default view of a location point as a red dot to supported icons. One can also select if the location data is specified as descriptive texts or as a combination of latitude and longitude. In the basic version of Fusion Tables, however, no option for adding multiple layers on the map is found. Such features can be obtained by using third-party add-ins which requires some programming knowledge. This was not investigated further.

Unlike Fusion Tables LL-MAP does not allow predefined icons. However, the color, size and shape of the dots, e.g. circular, triangular etc., can be easily modified. LL-MAP allows adding any number of layers on a single map. The visualization allows selecting or deselecting each layer as the user wishes.
