5.11. Portability

Software portability defines the usability of the same software in different environments. A software tool that needs to be installed on the computer may be dependent on the operating system. For example, Microsoft Word is designed to run on Windows, Open Office on Windows and Linux computers etc. Some software tools run on desktop PCs or laptops, while some other tools and applications run on mobile devices.

Both Fusion Tables and LL-MAP are offered as web services. Therefore, it is investigated if they run on a number of web browsers. Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome have been used for this purpose and all three browsers could correctly display the maps generated with the two example mapping tools. However, this observation was made on a Windows laptop and no mobile device was used.
