3.2. Analysis of Maps

A GIS does not only present the raw map data but also analyze and pre-process it by statistics or other manipulations performed by users and programmers. Thus, it is possible to create different visualizations for the same set of data. There are two fundamental approaches to analyzing map data: the analysis of geographical patterns and the calculation of distances between language locations.
