This book does not demand any mathematical or programming background knowledge while teaching many of the methodological skills important for statistical linguistic analysis.
It is written in a clear and highly approachable style, introducing each new function or graph step by step. The first few sections explain elementary statistical methods and show how to summarize data sets graphically and with statistical testing. The following chapters deal with advanced case studies.
Throughout the book, one finds small think breaks, exercise boxes (with answer keys in the appendix), recommendations for further study, links to websites (for instance the companion website to the book), and much more. Thanks to these little helpers, the result is a very practical and interactive introductory book.
I personally found this book the best explained and most logically divided one, which is the reason why I organized the outline of this companion website according to the outline of the book.
