3.2.1 About KWiCFinder

Parent Previous Next

KWiCFinder is a program developed by William H. Fletcher. He saw potential in the World Wide Web as a source of information but was frustrated with the commercial crawlers and their lack of options for linguistic searches. His program offers an alternative to commercial crawlers and is tailored to linguistic research (cf. Fletcher 2007: 25ff.). The abbreviation KWiC stands for ‘key word in context’. It designates the standard output format of concordances and names the program’s output format.

A beta version of KWiCFinder is available as a free download from the Internet. However, since a beta version is only a preliminary test version and not yet the finished product, it may still contain bugs and not function without problems or as well as the finished product would. Also, it only works in combination with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
