1.3.4 Validity of the method

The validity of the study can only be checked indirectly by comparing the consistency of judgements for different response methods; informants are asked to give a number or to draw a line etc. Thus, in contrast to e.g. line experiments, the validity of linguistic data cannot be assessed directly.
