token

token – a single linguistic unit, most often an individual occurrence of any given word form (cf. Anderson and Corbett 2009: 199; McEnery, Xiao and Tono 2006: 350); the number of tokens in the text is the same as the total number of words (cf. Oakes 1998: 256).
