metadata or meta-textual information – contextual information about corpus texts which can be used for sociolinguistic analyses. This information may include, for example, title and size of text, date of publication, information about the social background of speakers, as well as information on the context in which the text was produced (cf. Anderson and Corbett 2009: 196; Baker 2006: 115; McEnery, Xiao and Tono 2006: 348).
