Managing Complex System Disruptions

The project analyses how complex, non-standardized, disruptions in railway system are solved in distributed teams and in what ways the efficiency of managing such disruptions can be improved through technology and interaction between operators. The researchers reconstruct the communication flows and the quality of the information, i.e. the meaning of the information exchanged between the nodes, during and after the disruption. This allows an in-depth analysis of the communication patterns and the moments where coordination is lost and regained.

The project focuses on the Netherlands but also includes an al comparison between operators in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.
