1.2.1 Focus on one grammatical phenomenon

Parent Previous Next

Before you start your case study, make clear which grammatical phenomenon you are going to investigate. With the help of grammars and corpus-research you will obtain data which will give you general information on grammatical rules, properties, frequency and tendencies of the grammatical item under investigation. After such an analysis of corpus data, you will be able to compare your findings with grammatical rules formulated by grammarians. This will enable you to see variations and exceptions to these rules, which will then lead you to separate categories/subgroups etc. in order to form a hypothesis for your own study.
