Standard descriptions of the variable rule program

Parent Previous Next

The earliest descriptions of the variable rule program can be found in Cedergren and Sankoff (1974), Sankoff and Labov (1979), Sankoff and Rousseau (1979), as well as Sankoff (1988), who provides an extremely detailed insight into variable rules. There is also an adapted version of the latter volume which includes the documentation for Goldvarb 2.0. For detailed information on the function and application of the logistic regression package see Paolillo (2002), as he attaches great importance to statistical terms and explanations. Guy (1988, 1993), Young and Bayley (1996), as well as Tagliamonte (2006) give a fairly user-friendly introduction to variable rule analysis with the help of the variable rule program, as they try to “explicitly demystify what has been passed on by 'word of mouth' ... [and] document the procedures of variable rule analysis very lucidly” (Tagliamonte 2006: 129).
