Prosody

The Glossary of Literary Terms by Abrams & Harpham (201210: 319, s.v. prosody) states: “Prosody signifies the systematic study of versification in poetry; that is, the principles and practice of meter, rhyme and stanza forms. Sometimes the term ‘prosody’ is extended to include also the study of speech-sound patterns and effects such as alliteration, assonance, euphony, and onomatopoeia.”

Minkova, as a linguist, leans towards the latter part of this definition – more precisely she uses “prosody/prosodic to refer to the rhythmic organization of language, and meter/metrical to refer to the organization of verse.” (Minkova 2003: 22, footnote).
