The aim of this mini-project is to analyse word stress of German speakers of English regarding words where word stress varies between British and American English. Only students of English who had to decide between these two varieties at the beginning of their studies were recorded. Hence, a conclusion might be drawn whether these students are consistent in their usage of British or American English in the case of the chosen words. The recordings might also show whether there are certain words in which the investigated speakers tend towards one variety (BrE or AmE) despite their proclaimed leaning towards the other variety. Since I tried both the auditory and the acoustic method in order to analyse the recorded sounds and classify their stress placement, the strengths and shortcomings of these two methods can be outlined in the end.
