Dr. Kerstin-Anja Münderlein

I have been a lecturer at the Chair of English Literature since 2013; before that I was at the University of Siegen for a short time. After having earned my PhD at the University of Bamberg in 2018, I’m now doing my “Habilitation” (post-doc project) here as well and continue to teach students from their first semester in the Introduction to their last semester in state exam preparatory courses. Besides working on my current book project on interwar crime fiction in the UK, I published my dissertation (Genre and Reception in the Gothic Parody: Framing the Subversive Heroine; Routledge, 2022) as well as several (co-)edited volumes such as Crime Fiction, Femininities and Masculinities (UP Bamberg, 2024) or Rethinking Gothic Transgressions of Gender and Sexuality: New Directions in Gothic Studies (with Sarah Faber, Routledge, 2024)

Much of my research and teaching is centred on questions of gender expressions and normatisations, subversions and transgressions especially in the latter part of the long 18th century and the interwar period. Overall, I teach classes from the Elizabethan period to today’s literature with a focus on crime fiction, Gothic, drama and war and interwar literature. My publications range from 18th-century Gothic novel and parody to Star Trek Discovery fanfiction. As a co-editor of Crime Fiction Studies (Edinburgh UP), I always like to work with crime fiction, especially British crime fiction of the 19th and 20th centuries.
