Film screening and panel discussion on equal rights in science

Screening: "Picture a Scientist"

To mark International Women's Day on 8 March, the University of Bamberg and the Lichtspiel Kino are hosting a special event: On 10 March 2025 at 6 pm, we will be showing the documentary Picture a Scientist.

The film provides deep insights into the experiences of a biologist, a chemist and a geologist who describe their path in science as women. With moving stories, they shed light on the challenges that women in science often face: from discrimination and disadvantage to the fight for equal rights, respect and recognition. The film is thought-provoking and at the same time shows how important it is to stand up for change in the academic world.

The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion. Female academics from the University of Bamberg from the field of computer science will share their own experiences and discuss how science can be made more diverse and fairer. Among other things, they will explore the questions Who actually does science? And what do we need to do to achieve more equality and visibility for women in science?
