Multimedia User Experience Books (MuxBooks) & E-Books for the classroom

Multimedia teaching materials for science lessons

What are MuxBooks?

MuxBooks are interactive e-books that enhance traditional teaching methods with multimedia elements. They combine texts, images, videos and interactive content and thus enable a flexible and vivid examination of scientific content.

Advantages of using them in the classroom

  • possibility of combining text, images, video and numerous interactive elements
  • individualised learning, promotion of media skills
  • quick updating and customisation of content
  • learners can contribute their own experiences and knowledge creatively and actively participate in the learning group

MuxBooks are easy to use and only require basic technical equipment:

  • tablets/computers enable the creation and use of MuxBooks
  • internetconnection is required to access content and interactive features
  • Webbrowser or apps such as "Book Creator" make it possible to design your own MuxBooks, present them using multimedia or edit MuxBooks created by third parties

In cooperation with Junior Professor Dr. Tramowsky (PH Freiburg).

Mushroom cookbook in the context of sustainable development

The diversity of sustainable Fungi cuisine

Mushrooms: neither animal nor plant - this living creature is very diverse! This cookbook is dedicated to the fascinating world of mushrooms and shows their many uses in the kitchen as a sustainable resource. Mushrooms not only offer culinary enjoyment, but also contribute to a responsible approach to nature and the environment by serving as a substitute for meat. The cookbook was developed by students (Ms. Bergmann, Ms. Pickel) as part of the interdisciplinary seminar “FunGi Revolution!” of Art Didactics (Dr. Karl) and Didactics of Natural Sciences (Prof. Dr. Larsen) and was part of the (hands on) exhibition at the Bamberg Natural History Museum in 2022.

Human evolution

Concept-Comic "EvoChange"

The concept comic "EvoChange" is an innovative tool for teaching human evolution in biology lessons. It identifies everyday ideas and integrates adaptive learning aids. The aim is to develop scenarios that respond to different ideas and enable concept reconstruction strategies. The learning environment is aimed at students in grade 7./8. EvoChange was developed and evaluated in cooperation with the Otto-Friedrich-University (Dr. Messig, Mr. Häßler) and the PH Freiburg (Prof. Dr. Tramowsky, Dr. Jungblut).

Wild bees 1: Creating primary experiences in the context of ESD

MuxBook "On the trail of wild bees"

The MuxBook "On the trail of wild bees" enables a student-centred, skills-based approach to the topic of wild bee conservation as part of education for sustainable development. It can be used immediately in the classroom and specifically takes into account the students' previous experiences in order to promote independent learning. This MuxBook was developed in cooperation between the Otto Friedrich University (Prof. Dr. Larsen, Dr. Langstein, Dr. Raab, Ms. Gran), the Freiburg University of Teacher Education (Prof. Tramowsky, Ms. Klein) and the Joachim Herz Foundation (Prof. Dr. Irion).

Wild bees 2: Nesting cycle of wild bees and solitary wasps in nesting aids

MuxBook „My research book on the identification of wild bees“

The MuxBook "My research book on the identification of wild bees" enables a student-centred, skills-based discussion on the identification of wild bees based on the characteristics of their nesting galleries in nesting aids. It can be used immediately in lessons and offers an ideal supplement to the use or introduction of the identification of wild bees with the help of the identification app "ID-Logics" and the species group wild bees and wasps (DiKuLe wild bee project). This MuxBook was developed and evaluated as part of an admission thesis by Ms. Gran, supervised by Prof. Dr. Larsen (Otto-Friedrich University).
