Admission
Admission to the Master's degree programme Interaction Research & Design requires a university degree or an equivalent degree with a standard period of study of at least six semesters comprising 180 ECTS credits and an overall grade of 2.5 or better in a related degree programme or in a degree programme in the same field of study and the successful completion of the aptitude test.

- Design (in particular Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Integrated Design, Interaction Design, Communication Design, Brand and Communication Design, Media Design, Sustainable Design, Product Design, Visual Communication, User Experience Design),
- Computer Science (in particular Human-Computer Interaction, Media Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Bioinformatics, Computer and Communication Technologies, Engineering Computer Science/Technical Informatics, Medical Informatics, Software Systems Science),
- and Social and Human Sciences (in particular Psychology, Sociology, Social Sciences, Communication Science, Statistics, Applied Social Sciences, Intercultural Studies, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Political Sciences),
provided that these include at least 30 ECTS of methodological knowledge from the fields of design, empirical studies or computer science. In addition, the Bachelor's thesis must have been completed in one of these areas. In individual cases, the examination board decides whether a degree programme is considered related.
Application
Please be aware that the application process can take several weeks. For the sake of planning your studies, you should apply as early as possible. We therefore recommend that you meet the following application deadlines:
Studies beginning in the winter semester
- Recommended application deadline: no later than 15th of September
Studies beginning in the summer semester
- Recommended application deadline: no later than 15th of March
Foreign applicants not currently residing in Germany should, if possible, apply earlier in order to leave enough time for language examinations, entry requirements and preparation, moving and getting acquainted with the new culture and academic environment.
Application Documents
Your completed application must include the following documentation:
- curriculum vitae in tabular form
- completed application form
- Certification of successful completion of the examination for general or restricted university entry qualification.
- Certification of a completed university degree qualifying for entrance to the masters degree programme.
If the degree certificate is not yet available at the time of application, and your qualifying degree is conferred by a German university, you may turn in the certificate later. In this case the admission will be conditional only. - Documentation of modules, courses and examinations completed within the scope of your qualifying university degree (e.g. a transcript of records).
- For foreign applicants: Certificates giving proof of your German language proficiency, at least of level B2, along with a copy of your identity card or passport.
- Where applicable: professional credentials/ references, certificates from professional and continuing educational programmes, awards/ honours or voluntary service.
- A research exposé of a maximum of 3 DIN-A4 pages in which you address the following points: brief description of current research questions in interaction research and interaction design; your personal connection to these questions; the modules in your previous studies with a strong connection to these research questions; and optionally career perspectives that you see with regard to these research questions.

Qualification Procedure
The aptitude test is governed by the study and subject examination regulations.
- A maximum of 10 points can be awarded for special achievements or qualifications that provide special information about the suitability for the chosen postgraduate degree programme:
- Voluntary further education outside the study programme (workshops or courses attended).
- Explanation of relevant professional practice as well as practical engagement with the topic of Interaction Research & Design through projects, internships, work experience or training in this field.
- Special social commitment.
- A maximum of 30 points can be achieved for the submitted research exposé. The following distribution and weighting of points will be applied:
- the comprehensiveness of the breadth of the topic with up to 10 points.
- comprehensiveness of the depth of the topic with up to 10 points
- design and preparation with up to 5 points
- linguistic and grammatical correctness with up to 5 points.
Suitability for the Master's programme Interaction Research & Design is established if at least 20 points are obtained in the aptitude test.
Where do I upload or send my application materials?
Domestic Applicants
If you obtained your Bachelor's degree in a German university, the application process is carried out through the online Application Portal of the Registrar's Office.
Foreign Applicants
If you obtained your Bachelor's degree in a foreign university, please send your application to the Registrar's Office via post: Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, Studierendenkanzlei, Kapuzinerstr. 25, 96049 Bamberg.

Where can I find the topic of the research exposé?

The research exposé should be a maximum of 3 DIN-A4 pages in length, in which you address the following points: brief description of current research questions in interaction research and interaction design; your personal connection to these questions; the modules in your previous studies with a strong connection to these research questions; and optionally career perspectives that you see with regard to these research questions.
How long should the research exposé be?
The exposé shall not exceed three pages.
With the programme building up on three pillars and my background in only one of them, I wonder whether I can succeed in entering the other domains.
There are foundational modules and introductory offers in all three pillars. Thus, one can enter domains that one has not previously worked on. The experts of all fields offer their support based on their individual, profound expertise.
