Welcome to the website of the Chair of Physical Geography, GEO II!
Here you can find all the information about the chair's teaching activities and other services which are relevant to your studies.
The Chair of Physical Geography offers numerous courses in the Teaching degree programme (German only) in Geography and in the Bachelor (German only) of Geography, which can be started in both the winter and summer semesters.
The teaching program of our chair incorporates the following modules: as a teaching subject (Unterrichtsfach) at primary schools and Mittelschulen, as a teaching subject (Unterrichtsfach) at secondary schools (Realschulen and Gymnasien), as a Didaktikfach at primary schools and Mittelschulen or at vocational schools (berufliche Schulen) as a teaching subject (Staatsexamen) or as an elective subject (Wahlpflichtfach).
You should have an interest in science-oriented physical geography, which looks at structures, dynamics and changes in our (surrounding) world in a temporal context, as well as flexibility and the ability to work under pressure. Working outdoors - even in wind and weather - is part of everyday student life during field practicals and excursions.
The basic modules (B1-B5) teach the fundamentals of general geology and geomorphology, soil science, climatology, hydrology and vegetation geography as well as basic methodological training.
In the advanced and in-depth modules of regional (module B6) and general (B7) geography, students can focus on complex and interdisciplinary topics such as natural hazards, landscape and environmental change or geoarchaeology at various spatial levels and with a current research focus.
Furthermore, our methodological seminars in physical geography (B8) with analog and digital field techniques (e.g. geographical information systems, photogrammetry), laboratory methods, rock determination and remote sensing courses as well as field practicals and excursions (B10) focus on strongly application-oriented teaching. The regional focus is on Franconia, the Alps, the Mediterranean region and Iceland.
Research focuses and interests lie in Germany (Bavarian Alpine Foreland), the Mediterranean region (Mallorca), Central Europe, North Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean (Cuba).
The chair is also involved in the Master's program (German only) in Historical Geography.
All current information for teaching can also be found in the digital information portal Physical Geography (German only) in the Virtual Campus (VC) of the University of Bamberg.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR STUDIES!
