Printing with campusprint under macOS 14 Sonoma

Important notes

In order to use the campusprint printing service, you must have a valid user account (BA number + password) and a student ID or service card.

Both for setting up campusprint and for printing with campusprint, your device must be connected to the data network of the University of Bamberg, for example directly via the university WLAN or using a VPN connection. Information on VPN at the University of Bamberg can be found at www.uni-bamberg.de/its/vpn.

Installing the printer driver

First download the printer driver for the Konica Minolta bizhub C300i copier from the manufacturer's website.

To do this, search for bizhub C300i on the website using the product name search. Then expand the Driver section and select your operating system. Figure 1 shows which operating system has been selected (macOS Sonoma 14) and the download symbol has been marked in the bottom right-hand corner.

Download the latest PostScript driver afterwards by clicking on the arrow symbol.

In the following window, check the I accept the license terms box and then download the .dmg file by clicking on the link.

After downloading, open the downloaded file. A volume will appear on the desktop as shown in Figure 2. The name of the file may differ from the picture. Open it by double-clicking.

Open the volume by double-clicking on it, execute the .pkg file it contains and follow the instructions of the installation wizard. You will then be asked to enter your user name and password. To complete the installation, you can close the window.

Set up printer

Open the system settings and go to the Printers & scanners menu item.

Add a new printer by clicking on the plus symbol in the left-hand overview column.

The Advanced menu item that is now required is hidden by macOS by default. To show this item, right-click or hold down the Ctrl key in the toolbar and select Customize toolbar ... from the options menu. In Figure 3, the menu item Customize toolbar ... is highlighted.

Then use the mouse to drag the icon for the Advanced menu item to your printer toolbar.

Go to the Advanced menu item and make the following settings there:

  • Type: Windows printer via spoolss
  • Device: Other device
  • URL: smb://campusprint.uni-bamberg.de/campusprinterps
  • Name: campusprint.uni-bamberg.de
  • Location: <empty>
  • Use: Select the Select software option.... Search for the KONICA MINOLTA C300i PS printer driver and confirm with OK.

Figure 4 shows the previously mentioned settings once again.

A new window opens. If you want to activate the stapling function, select the FS-536 option under Finisher
Confirm the default settings by clicking OK.
Finish the setup by clicking on the Add button.
Before you now send a print job (within the university network), restart macOS. Make sure that you have then selected the printer campusprint.uni-bamberg.de.

Send print job

When sending a print job for the first time, you will be asked for login details. First select the Registered user option under Connect as. Then enter your BA number under Name and the corresponding password under Password.

In Figure 5, the Registered user is selected and the Name and Password fields are filled in for an example.

Important note:

Color printing and 2-sided are selected by default in the printer properties. If you want to print in grayscale or 1-sided, you must set this manually.

To set grayscale, click on Preview in the print window and select Quality from the drop-down menu. Then select the Grayscale option under Select color.

To set 1-sided, click on Preview in the print window and select Layout / Finishing from the drop-down menu. Then select the 1-sided option under Print type.
