CONFERENCE
「Internal BAGSS Conference」
___ Conference Concept
The Internal BAGSS Conference (IBC) is an important part of the School's annual calendar. The conference poses the opportunity for doctoral students to present and discuss their work. With this inter-disciplinary event graduate students across all four Pillars get together gaining information about each others research and applied methods. The gathering also plays an important role establishing co-authorships and academic collaborations.
The IBC is also a very useful place to try out the presentations planned to be delivered at national or international conferences during the course of the year. Practice is a very important condition for successful presentations when external high profile people are in the audience.
Not least, the IBC is meant to be a pleasant event where all members, graduate students, associate members of the School and supervisors, have a chance to cultivate those informal links that can help doctoral students to get through the ups and downs of a dissertation project.

___ IBC 2018
IV. Internal Conference IBC Bayreuth
This IBC in 2018 had a new and reformed concept in form of a retreat: the doctoral students visited Bayreuth for 2,5 days of academic and social activities! All regular and associate members of the Graduate School were invited to join in order to get to know each other and each other’s research projects as well as to learn from each other’s experiences – but also to practice presenting or defending their projects as well as practicing to give valuable feedback.
The IBC offered different formats, which were designed to capture the needs and interests from first year doctoral students to doctoral students, who were close to submitting or defending their doctoral thesis:
· Conference simulation (presenting + discussion)
· Current research challenges
· My life and project
· Walk and talk
· Publishing and cooperating
· Mock defense
The IBC took place 15-17 November 2018.
