Small Area Estimation of Socioeconomic Indicators

In a first project, my dissertation addresses the challenge of obtaining reliable estimates of travel activity at the district level from large-scale mobility surveys. Using Small Area Estimation (SAE) models, correlations between the dependent variable (Mean Trip Kilometers - MTK) and auxiliary data are exploited to improve the precision of the estimates at the level of German districts.

Along similar lines, ongoing research explores the use of satellite auxiliary data in an algorithm called Kernel Density Estimation to disaggregate statistical indicators into finer subdomains.
